The U.S. Federal Indictment of Jeff Foiles on 23 counts of illegal waterfowl violations, in both the U.S. and Canada, serves as an example of the worst behaviour our hunting fraternity can exhibit. Foiles, 53, an Illinois based goose hunting "legend", call maker, video producer and hunt club operator, is charged with gross violations of duck and goose hunting bag limits in the making of videos, commercial guiding and hunt club activities. His case is pending in the U.S. Federal court system, where if convicted could result in a maximum sentencing of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and forfeiture of property involved in these hunts.
The dialogue regarding the Foiles indictment serves as an opportunity for all of us raising kids in this sport to make the case that anything other than a moral adherence to the laws of the society we benefit from is arrogant, ignorant and anti-social. With our "Reality TV" , 15 min. of fame Facebook, narcissistic It's all about Me society, it's incumbent on us as individuals and we as a sporting fraternity to demonize the behaviour of anyone behaving badly, illegally or immorally, regardless of the activity. Without a backbone, the body will crumble. Lets all stand up on our collective back legs and take away something positive from this disgusting display for the future of our children and the future of our countries.
